The Story of Guru Purnima
The most widely known story behind Guru Purnima is connected to Vyasa, one of the greatest sages in Indian tradition.
Sage Vyasa was born to Sage Parashara and Satyavati. He is believed to have organized the four Vedas, composed the epic Mahabharata, and authored many Puranas and the Brahma Sutras. Because of his immense contribution to preserving and spreading spiritual knowledge, he is regarded as the Adi Guru (the first great teacher).
On the full moon day of Ashadha, his disciples gathered to honor him and express their gratitude for his teachings. Since then, this day has been celebrated as Guru Purnima, also known as Vyasa Purnima, in remembrance of Sage Vyasa and as a day to pay respect to all gurus.
