I’m a mom of six with a passion for better health and wellness within the home. I began my health journey nearly 15 years ago as I battled severe depression, and have tried to help many others begin their own health journey. I believe that nature provides the necessary nutrition in order for people to live healthy, happy lives full of energy. My goal is to inspire others to make a change in their eating habits and daily product use.

I am a Certified Nutritionist, Wellness Coach, and Mental Health Advocate. I share tips and tricks, how-to’s and why’s behind choosing better, whole, non-toxic ingredients for their families. After years of struggling to find personal care products with ingredients I was willing to use on myself and on my children, I decided to make my own! Just Ingredients deodorant and face serum launched in Fall 2019, followed by top-selling protein powder and pre-workout, with more products in the works.

Non-GMO Food Swaps 💚

The food many of us grew up on (depending on your age :) was NOT genetically modified! In other words, GMO’s were not part of our food supply. What has changed?

First, GMO stands for genetically modified organism. This means the DNA structure of the plant, like soy for example, has been altered to withstand pesticides being sprayed on it instead of withering or shriveling. Companies sell Roundup Ready crops which are designed to survive applications of Roundup (main ingredient is glyphosate). Then, the pesticide laden crop is harvested and enters the food supply. This became common in the 2000s.
THIS is the issue with GMO’s.

Some of the most common GMO foods are corn, soy, canola, and sugar beets. If your food contains one of these crop ingredients, it likely contains GMOs and glyphosate.

Is glyphosate only a concern for GMO foods?

No, unfortunately. There is a whole list of foods that are sprayed with glyphosate that aren’t GMOs. Wheat, oats and almonds ARE NOT genetically modified crops (this one confuses a lot of people!) but they’re common ones when it comes to being sprayed with glyphosate.

What is the concern with glyphosate?

-In 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, part of the World Health Organization, reviewed extensive U.S., Canadian and Swedish studies on glyphosate’s human health effects, as well as research on laboratory animals. The IARC classified the chemical as “probably carcinogenic” to humans.
-In 2017, California listed glyphosate in its Proposition 65 registry of chemicals known to cause cancer.
-A 2019 meta-analysis study showed glyphosate increases the risk of cancer by 41%
-In 2021, Bayer (which owns RoundUp) announced it would end the sale of glyphosate based herbicides (including Round Up) from the public marketplace (beginning this year). While this is a small victory, it can still be used commercially by farmers, so glyphosate will still be in our food supply.

Better Choice Baby Products! 🍼

When we choose to support companies that provide better products, the big companies start noticing! There are SO many more companies creating better baby products than there used to be. In 2018 Johnson & Johnson changed their baby line of products (for the first time since 1973) to reduce the number of ingredients by 50%!

Since one of the big companies made a change, many other baby companies did too.

Thankfully, so many better choice baby products are out on the market today. Most baby washes and lotions are now free of parabens, phthalates, and artificial dyes. In addition to those three ingredients, I’d look for products without:

Synthetic fragrance
Talc
BHT
Formaldehyde releasers
SLES
BPA
Propylene glycol
Glyphosate/gmos
Artificial preservatives
Chlorine
Petroleum based

School lunch ideas! 🥪

According to the AHA, kids ages 2-18 should consume less than 25g of added sugar per day (and even less is better!). Kids under 2 should have no added sugar at all (added sugar does not mean sugar that comes from fruit).

Studies have found links between added sugar and increased risk for:
cardiovascular disease
high blood pressure
diabetes
nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
obesity

Reducing added sugar can also help prevent blood sugar spikes and subsequent crashes which may help your child focus better in class. 📝

What are some of your favorite lunch swaps?

All of the products for your Postpartum needs! ✨

Childbirth is the most massive transition our bodies go through. Everyone has hormonal changes after birth but not everyone reacts to it in the same way. Postpartum is an important time to take time for yourself.

Women’s bodies go through so many changes during pregnancy and postpartum!

The body is continuing to change during each phase; progesterone and estrogen rise during pregnancy and abruptly drop after the baby arrives.

Then oxytocin (the “mothering hormone”) and prolactin start to rise....the roller coaster of hormones and emotions can really take a toll on new moms. Too much oxytocin can contribute to anxiety.

Along with that there are the demands of a new baby; feeding the baby, the lack of sleep and new motherhood in general can play a role in hormonal imbalances.

What can you do to help those postpartum hormone fluctuations❓

-Switch out feminine hygiene products for ones with less harmful ingredients. Look for organic pads because those won’t have GMO cotton or contain dioxins (due to chlorine bleaching.) Dioxins are linked to hormone disruption and according to the EPA there is “no safe level of exposure to dioxin.”

-Reduce the use of products that may contain phthalates; phthalates can be found in things like scar balms, nipple balms and perennial care items. Even low doses of endocrine disruptors like phthalates can alter the body’s sensitive systems.

-Use breast pads, water bottles and other plastic products that are BPA free. BPA has been shown to interact with estrogen receptors and has a tendency to bioaccumulate.

New moms need products that aren’t filled with endocrine disruptors or ingredients that will affect her natural hormones. Nourish the body the best you can with what you put in it and on it. 💗

⁉️ Did you know that many medications contain artificial dyes, sweeteners, flavors, corn syrup, fillers, and emulsifiers?!

🦠There are many ways to support natural immunity to prevent illness, and when we do get sick, we can choose medicines made from ingredients that truly support the body’s healing and recovery- like propolis and elderberry.

💊In my medicine cabinet, you’ll find a variety of supplements, homeopathics, herbal tinctures, and red light therapy! I try to keep a variety of these on hand, especially as school starts and germs and bugs become more prevalent.

✅Stay tuned for part 2!
