Looking at photos for the book. Came across this one of me and a mate on top cover on a cold and wet winters day back in the 80s. Civvi walking by as if all this was normal and it was to them unfortunately. Went back a few years ago and this pub had been demolished.

The US poncho liner. Much prized in the 80s when I was in stay behind patrols. Great bit of kit. Mine is repaired but still in use 40 years later. Generally lives in the car, has been all over the world & comes on many travels still. This and my battered US army metal mug.

BOOK ANNOUNCEMENT
Three years ago I decided to write a book.
"Unconventional Soldier - Inside Britain's Cold War Stay-Behind Patrols"
This week I've a publisher for it. What a learning curve and one of the most challenging endeavours I've undertaken. Nearly binned it a few times but I kept going back.
Part memoir & history. From the foundation of the unit in 82 in the Cold War to Op GRANBY. I discuss my journey from joining army to selection & training for the Special OP Troop, the evolution of the unit to 4/73 Bty and operations in Northern Ireland and Iraq in 91. Plus the wider NATO strategy for stay- behind forces.
Couple of hurdles to jump yet. First being MOD clearance which is a publisher requirement. Updates to follow.
A massive thanks to all my podcast guests and for everyone supporting the pod. Every one of you inspired me to write 👏
