Ever checked your egg carton before putting it in your shopping cart — just to make sure they were all intact? https://youtu.be/ilpmpCEDK8A

It’s surprising how delicate chicken eggs seem, because each one can support 50 to 100 pounds!

If you think that’s crazy, you won’t want to miss our latest episode, freshly hatched.

Reptiles, amphibians, birds, insects, sea creatures and even some mammals all lay eggs. But why not humans? How were we able to evolve from having to still do this? We'll address this on Tuesday's episode of Big Ideas.

This tiny fly may look like it’s wearing rainbow sunglasses, but those shimmering orbs are its compound eyes. 🪰

Fruit flies have thousands of ommatidia — or tiny lenses — packed into each eye.

Those iridescent colored lenses help the fly spot prey (and maybe even attract a date).

Tiny hunter. Major glam. ✨

Wait - are my eyes deceiving me, or did Big Ideas just drop? 👀🪰https://youtu.be/5UCQoFO9dIk

It’s no surprise that insects can see faster than we do - a dragonfly, boasting around 30,000 ommatidia, would’ve caught that notification in seconds.

If you don’t know what ommatidia means, fear not. All you have to do is check out our new episode, fresh off the presses. 🐜🪲

In honor of Valentine’s Day tomorrow, we’d like to shout out a couple that does everything together: lovebugs!

Like the best things, lovebugs often come in pairs - literally, because they can spend up to a couple of days attached to each other.

Some may call it clingy, but for lovebugs, it’s all part of the mating process. Talk about commitment.

If you think your love is loud, then you’ve never seen a lacewing fly in action.

Before mating, lacewing flies vibrate their bodies and sing to each other - a “courtship duet” that sets a romantic scene like no other.

It’s a musical collab fit for a Grammy. SZA and Kendrick might have cinched this last one, but lacewing flies put up some real competition!

Oh yeah… New digs!

One snail's trash is another Hermit crab's treasure.

Hermit crabs are obsessed with finding discarded snail shells, depending on them for housing and protection. Repurposing at its finest!

Our hermit crab friend here looks ready to make this shell house a shell home.
