Poetic Journey into Men's Mental Health

In my latest poem addressing men's mental health, I chose to highlight an often overlooked yet misunderstood subject: vulnerability.

About the Poem: This poem emphasizes the hidden struggles and the importance of a man's vulnerability. It illustrates how men need to break free from their mental prisons, confront hidden issues by seeking help, and heal. I wrote it to raise awareness about the significance, advantages, and potential pitfalls of vulnerability when exposed to the wrong people. Additionally, it aims to highlight common mistakes that can cause men to become closed off when they are vulnerable. Ultimately, the poem aims to dispel the misconception that vulnerability equates to weakness or ineffectiveness.

You must do a platform/contact cleanse!

1. Go on each social platform, such as TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, Lemon8, Twitch, Facebook, YouTube, Whatsapp, Snapchat, Kik, Goodreads, etc.

2. Click on your profile. Click the following or subscriptions button to view who you are following or subscribed to.

3. Examine each of these channels/pages and ask yourself:
- Is this channel/page drawing me closer to God or away from him?
- Is their content in alignment with God's word?
- Are they following anyone secular?
- If you know this person: Do their social media profiles match their personality? If so, do they align with God's word?

4. If their page or channel is drawing you away from God, not in alignment with God's word, following secular people, or their personality doesn't match their profiles (pretending to be a child of God online but living a life of sin in public or vice versa), Unfollow or Unsubscribe from them immediately.

If their channel or page aligns with God's word, it helps you draw closer to God, doesn't connect with secular people, and (if you know them) their profiles and personality align with God's Word. You can continue to follow them or stay subscribed to them.

Continue this process until you have completed it on each platform. Be patient. It will be worth it.

Then, do the same thing for your contacts.
Ask yourself: Is this person drawing closer to God or away from him?
Why do I contact this person?
Will keeping in contact with this person affect my relationship with God?

If this person is affecting your relationship with God or drawing you away from him. Stop contacting them.

If you maintain contact with this person for a specific need and it doesn't affect your relationship with God, ask God to reveal who this person is and if it's okay to continue in contact with them.

Continue this process until it is completed.

As God's children, we must be careful about what we watch, read, listen to, engage in, and befriend.

1 Corinthians 15:33 NIV
[33] Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”

Mark 4:24-25 NLT
[24] Then he added, “Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given—and you will receive even more. [25] To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them.”

Luke 11:34 NIV
[34] Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness.

Prayer for God to protect your life

Psalms 91:11-12 NIV
[11] For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; [12] they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

Almighty Father, I thank you for sending your son Jesus to die for my sins. Thank you for your unfailing love. King of Kings, your word verifies how you will send your angels to guard all our ways and lift us up away from harm. Please send your angels to monitor and protect the lives of my family, friends, and me. Please help them be with us during every moment of our lives to protect us at all times. Cover us with the powerful blood of Jesus Christ. Place your hand on every aspect of our lives, cleanse us, and every aspect of our lives. Remove everything and everyone who displeases you. Please change our lives and help us to live a life that pleases you without ceasing. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Prayer of protection and elevation for your spiritual life

Psalms 27:4-5 NIV
[4] One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. [5] For in the day of trouble, he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.

Gracious Father, I exalt and uplift your name. Thank you for everything you have done for me and will continue to do. Certain parts of my spiritual life need improvement. I served you well last year, but I must serve you better this year. My main request is that you place me in your house and help me to dwell in it all the days of my life. Please protect my soul, mind, heart, and spirit. In days of trouble, hide me in the shelter of your sacred tent and set me upon a rock. Please hold my hand, Almighty Father, and help me never to depart from you. Draw me deeper into your presence to elevate my relationship with you to a new dimension. Fix my focus on you, in whom you will be the priority of my life forever. Place an endless hunger within me to seek you through all things and obey your word without ceasing. Let this year be the beginning of an unforgettable new chapter in our relationship. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Prayer to surrender your projects, plans, and goals of 2026 to God

Psalms 127:1 NIV
[1] Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.

Great Heavenly Father, I exalt and uplift your name. Thank you for allowing me to see this year. Thank you in advance for making this a special year. I come before you to invite you into all of my plans, dreams, goals, projects, and business ideas. Please intervene and take control. Guide me with the Holy Spirit because your ways are better than my ways. When you direct me, help me to trust you even when I don't understand. Because you are a faithful and trustworthy Father who will never fail or mislead me. Please protect my projects, dreams, goals, plans, and business ideas with the blood of Jesus. I surrender everything to you, have your way. Please help me to succeed, elevate, and reach further than I could've ever imagined. In Jesus' name, Amen.

One of the most overlooked topics in society is Men's mental Health.

At the beginning of the year, I made a heartfelt decision to make a difference by revealing specific hidden struggles that men often face alone.

I shared the poem with some men, but it needed to reach a wider audience.

I submitted my entry to the Adelaide Literary Magazine Award Contest. Several weeks later, I received an email informing me that I had been selected as a finalist.

I encourage everyone to be more mindful of men's mental health.

What is one step you have taken to help men?

Prayer for a Spiritual Inventory

A Spiritual inventory is a record of all your Spiritual progress and failure throughout a specific period. Everyone needs to conduct a spiritual inventory to identify areas of their spiritual life that require improvement.

Reflect on this year:
- Did you draw closer to God or draw farther from God?
- What is one area in spiritual life that needs improvement (Do you need to pray more, fast more, read the bible, etc)?
- What have you learned about God?
- Did you grow spiritually?
- What mistakes have you made this year on your walk with God that you want to avoid in the future?
- Why are you serving God? (Is it for blessings, money, or to find a spouse?)
- Is your salvation your primary objective (Is going to heaven your priority)?

After answering these questions honestly, pray this prayer:

Almighty God, I come before to thank you for who you are and what you have done in my life. Heavenly Father, please reveal to me where I stand in my relationship with you. Please show me the areas of spiritual life that must improve. Please guide me with the Holy Spirit into the steps I must take to change my life. I wouldn't like to keep repeating the same mistakes and making bad decisions. I admit that I was wrong every time I have knowingly and unknowingly sinned. Cleanse me and every part of my life from all unrighteousness. Change me into who you created me to be. Cut off the branches that don't produce fruit. I surrender my life to you, asking you to take control, have your way, and use me in the way you please. Please help me not to resist your direction but obey you and endure until the end. In Jesus' name, Amen.

John 15:4-6 NIV
[4] Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. [5] “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing. [6] If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire, and burned.

1 John 1:9 NIV
[9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Reading more books is a powerful way to elevate your writing skills alongside practice!

In college, I often turned to my professors—seasoned industry professionals with over 15 years of experience, awards, and hit movies to their name—seeking their wisdom on improving my writing. Their answer was unwavering: read more books.

At first, I was puzzled; I expected them to emphasize writing practice. However, the transformation was undeniable once I conducted research, set down the pen, and immersed myself in reading.

Reading has enriched my life in so many ways:
- It has improved my diction.
- It has minimized my stress.
- It has sharpened my vocabulary.
- It has exposed me to diverse styles of formatting and syntax.
- It has sparked incredible ideas for my writing.
- It has refined my grammar.
- It has made me a better critical thinker.

While practicing writing is important, embracing the power of reading is essential for any writer striving for greatness.

What inspiring books are you currently reading?
