In the middle of summer, I realized that in the near future, rehearsals, organizing charity concerts, and trips outside of Ashkelon were not an option due to financial issues, which only worsened after the start of the war in Israel. All my attention needed to be focused on my personal training studio, on yoga, and on my family.

In September, I was fortunate enough to meet Yura in person. He immediately said he wouldn’t charge for the recording. His words that “songs are like children” resonated with me, knowing his story and how, since 7.10, he has stayed in Sderot to live and work, even living alone on an entire street for a while amidst constant shelling. I understood that we absolutely had to create something together. We recorded the song right at work, where we held personal training sessions, throwing blankets over a barbell rack. One continuous track of guitar and one full vocal track — this was actually the first experience where the song came out without re-recorded parts or tuning to hit the notes. The goal was to focus the vocals so it felt like I was singing live in a room in front of the listener.

And it worked. Yarun suggested we submit the song to Musosoup (a platform that connects with music bloggers and critics from around the world) to get some coverage. I replied that it was a silly idea — a song titled and contextualized as “7.10.23” was unlikely to resonate, considering the wave of protests worldwide and my English. And here we are, still sifting through all the requests from people wanting to write about it, either for free or a small fee. Since the release, we haven’t managed to get through all the requests — there are more than we ever had with other songs.
