The OGSR Library collects and makes available samples and data from wells drilled in Ontario under the Oil, Gas and Salt Resources Act, we hope that sounds really boring to you #geologyjokes
Data collected is primarily from Oil and Natural Gas wells that have been dug and drilled in Ontario since 1858. Many other types of wells drilled into the subsurface Paleozoic bedrock of Ontario also submit data stored at the OGSR Library; one of these types of wells is called a salt solution mining well and this is where your table salt comes from!
Our catalogue includes:
- 27 000+ well points with geological and engineering data
- 21 000+ geophysical logs
- 10 000+ locations with geological samples at 3 metre intervals
- 1 000+ rock cores
Files and rock samples are available for study and sampling in person at our facility in London, Ontario. Just about everything, except our rock collection (we're working on it), can be viewed online through our website.
