🍳 Welcome to my kitchen. I am Pearline Hawkins, and most people call me Mama Pearline. I was born in Bolivar County, Mississippi in 1950 and I have never left the Delta. Everybody left. I stayed. I cook the way my mother Alberta and my grandmama Pearl cooked: cast iron, cheap cuts, a garden out back, and nothing ever thrown away. Here I give you the soul food that carried Black families through the lean years, the pots and the tricks and the Sunday dinners, and the dishes nobody ever bothered to write down. That is exactly why I am telling them.
