Jean was born in Essex in 1952 and discovered a love of books almost as soon as he could read, thanks to countless visits to the local library with his mother. That early spark grew into a lifelong devotion to storytelling, one that has carried him through the creation of 89 novels across six different genres including urban low fantasy, family drama of the 20th century and occasional dystopian, Bildungsroman and roman à clef..
‘My work thrives on psychological tension, layered settings, and rich character interactions, not on external suspense and fast pacing’. That ethos has defined his writing career, producing stories that are eclectic, surprising, and deeply human.
Although most of his books have been published under the name Molly Cutpurse, Jean has also written as Douglas J Winchester and Stick Woman. He once achieved official bestseller status on Amazon, ranking as the 94th most read author.
