On October 1, 2019, my husband had a stroke that affected his vision for months. During that time, I prayed constantly and went to the temple, seeking guidance on how to help him heal. I felt inspired to fully live the Word of Wisdom—not just the parts commonly emphasized. What I discovered surprised me.

Verse 12 states, "Flesh also of beasts and of the fowls of the air... are to be used sparingly." When I looked up sparingly, it meant occasionally or in limited amounts. I couldn’t say we were eating meat that way.

Then verse 13 adds, "It is pleasing unto me that they should not be used, only in times of winter, or of cold, or famine." And verse 15 reaffirms, "God made [them] for the use of man only in times of famine and excess of hunger."

I came to understand that it truly pleases the Lord when we prioritize eating meat sparingly—something I had never fully realized before. This podcast goes deep into all the reasons whey we should eat meat more sparingly.
