Which 2010s Disney live-action flop deserved better?

@manospondylus

John Carter definitely. Faithful and passionate adaptation of the source material whose only major flaw was coming out too late, after almost every major scifi franchise had already ripped the original novel off.

John Carter had the misfortune of being one of the OG sci-fi stories. So if it looked derivative, itโ€™s only because the JC books invented half of those tropes to begin with.

I'm going with John Carter of Mars. It was a genuinely entertaining film.

So little love for Prince of Persia. :( As someone who never played the games growing up, I thought the movie was a lot of fun! There are some seriously fantastic actors and a lot of unique draws that have never been seen onscreen before: the ancient Middle Eastern setting? Ostrich racing? African trick knife throwing? Hashish smoking assassins all with unique fighting styles? Parkour and wall running combat? The Dagger of Time itself and the amazing visuals that go along with it? It's a stunning film!

At the time John Carter came out, you could tell the media had chosen it as the sacrificial lamb of the season. There was the actual naming of the film which was decided too late so no one knew what it was. It was Disney but for kids or adults or both? It had a huge budget (obvious because the SFX are terrific and the world building amazing). So it started out on the wrong foot and everyone had something to savage. I DID see it in nearly empty cinemas (of course it's great on the big screen). Loved it ๐Ÿ‘

John Carter was good, and is based on a true classic work of fiction

John Carter honest to god slapped. It just had the misfortune of piss poor marketing, a lead actor who truly seems to have been cursed by some deity to never see success, and the fact that nobody knew how much popular sci fi built off the backs of the novels to the point everyone said it was a knockoff of stuff like Star Wars.

True title John Carter did it no favors. It's a bland title that gives no indication what the movie is. The name John Carter doesn't have widespread recognition
