What is the longest river in the United States?

@zvbx

The Missouri (along with the Amazon) must have had a growth spurt because when I was in school the Mississippi River was the longest river in the United States and the Nile River was the longest in the world.

A bit of a horse race between Missouri and Mississippi ... The longest river in the United States is the Missouri River, which stretches approximately 2,341 miles (3,768 kilometers). It flows from its source in the Rocky Mountains of western Montana, through several states, and eventually joins the Mississippi River north of St. Louis, Missouri. The Mississippi River itself is slightly shorter than the Missouri, measuring about 2,340 miles (3,766 kilometers) from its source at Lake Itasca in Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico. However, when combined with the Missouri River, the Mississippi-Missouri river system becomes one of the longest in the world.

@meatyeye

The Missouri is literally just a tributary of the Mississippi. #MakeItMakeSense

Ummm... the Missouri is a tributary of the Mississippi, and should all be "The Mississippi". The northern Mississippi should actually be something else. The early explorers totally screwed up.

Mandela effect?

I knew right away lol, I live in Mandan, it runs between Bismarck and Mandan North Dakota. There's great fishing between ND and South Dakota, I don't know if it's that good south of there.

The Missouri River is longer than the Mississippi River by exactly 1 mile.
