Ed's Auto Reviews

THE WORD IS OUT! I BOUGHT MY VERY FIRST CLASSIC AMERICAN CAR!

That's right, I bought a Mark III, top of the range personal luxury car of the Ford family of fine cars!

Automatic transmission, cruise control, climate control, power everything, and a 460 V8. Does about 3 hamburgers per square bald eagle, but it's all about smiles per gallon!

Go watch my latest video for more information!

If you see this: • Please immediately see that the flex points on your trapezoidal hood (bonnet) hinges are lubricated. Many an old American car has had these go dry, and they will seize up just when you’re trying to close the hood, and believe it or not the hood itself will start to fold over the stuck hinge so you’ll need a new one •the transmission has a defect in that the Park pawl will slip out of its position with the car running, engage reverse, and drive off backward while you’re taking a photo. • One fun aspect, though, of Ford transmissions of that era is that the 2 position locks out first. On GM, Chrysler automatics, selecting 2 from a standing start would still give you first, then shift to second but no higher. Ford’s 2 gives you second and only second, useful for starting on slippery surfaces or driving economy perhaps

I watched your video showing when you picked it up. Watching you going over the car, I could see how excited you were. I realized I was smiling too, just watching. I know the feeling. Very happy for you!

Fantastic American land yacht to sail the asphalt seas. The only thing I would do with that car is get the vacuum lines checked. They control EVERYTHING, and after 50 years they are probably quite brittle.

Nice! That's my first car, same color and year. The learning curve for winter was pretty steep, yet the weight and low end torque made it fairly forgiving; just had to use the right tires and do everything slowly. Drifting at 15mph around every turn was pretty fun though. But I also learned how to parallel park with that land yacht, and ever since then I can parallel park anything. That Continental was also easily the most comfy thing for highway driving, it was like driving a floating sofa. Good times.

Congratulations! I will warn you, though, collecting classic American cars of this era are like tattoos. Once you get one you want another and another and another!

I owned a 70 Mark, same colors as the French connection car. Had it about five years then sold it on, from New Jersey to a new owner in Bosnia, and who looks to be loving the hell out of it!

@bigheadfred

Congratulations on your purchase. It's one of my favourite car designs from that era.

That's the pinnacle of luxury right there, I hope you enjoy it, and I hope to see content about it

We had a powder blue '71 MarkIII when I was kid growing up in the early '80s. With gas prices the way they were back then, it still cost $50 a week to keep it going. I enjoy your videos very much, keep up the good work !

@00vaag

To me it's just comical that a car so big only has 2 doors.
