TravenTalks

Hey, I'm starting work on my next video and am looking for examples to talk about, so - what’s your favourite examples of architecture / city design in an animated show or movie?

The weirder and more obscure the example the better!

Oh! Oh! The there's also the way Madoka Magica's setting manages to blend Catholic, modernist and fairytale-gothic influences. Very nice!

From Software video games have some of the most visually striking examples of real world inspired architecture I've ever experienced. I'm particularly attached to Classical Greece's architecture, especially Hellenistic, as well as Hellenistic Egypt. However, I also love the many many different architecture seem throughout Asia. Honestly each part of the whole world has something to offer. There's something to be said for Inuit architecture with it's elegant simplistic appearance that hides subtle complexities, and practical applications that if done incorrectly will literally get you killed.

Weird Howls Moving Castle. It is only held together by magic. For obscure the opening sequence of the second Vampire hunter D movie has really cool architecture. Both of the VHD movies have really interesting post apocalyptic/gothic/cyberpunk aesthetics. But they are really hard to find if you don’t want to watch the YouTube bootlegs.

Well... I wouldn't say favourites, but these come to mind first: Neon Genesis Evangelion - Tokyo-3. Classic. Kill la Kill - Honno city is pretty damn obscure (or anything Trigger really...) Shingeki no Kyojin - the walls, maaan Shoujo Kakumei Utena - that damn tower :D

It's not famous but the architecture in the animated short film "Noiseman Soundinsect" by studio 4c is really unique

Also (don't know if this counts as an anime) but I really love how the setting in Danganronpa 1 feels like something straight out of a Dario Argento film

If you want weird and obscure you can't beat the cityscapes in the Monogatari series

@pablocolcap

Probably the seemingly infinite macrostructural city of Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou
