I thought “just draw more” was the secret.
That mindset almost ruined my progress.

Because I was just drawing MORE BAD drawings — faster.

I did this for YEARS.

I'd open my sketchbook and feel that same thought:

“Why am I not improving?”

Funny enough, It wasn’t about my talent.
Nor my motivation.

Just one simple mistake:

I wasn't studying. I was stuck in redrawing the same guess over and over.

Then something changed.
I stopped guessing.

How?

I started PAUSING and DECODING instead.

Let's say you're stuck at drawing a jaw for the character...

Don't waste any time on guessing and trying to redraw it.

Use this 5 min habit instead:

1) Find 2–3 refs of this particular part (at different angles)

2) Look for planes + shapes (paint over the pic)

3) Optionally, do a quick sketch study (2-3 mins)

Suddenly it clicks. You stop guessing.
And drawing becomes FUN again!

@specterman603

I'm really frustrated there aren't videos on youtube about how to study and actually make progress doing the thing you just said, only videos that show you how to draw not the mentality and the fuctional steps needed to improve after doing something wrong ( hopefully I'm wrong and you can recommend me someone that does that? ) I'm currently stuck where u were where I just draw but don't improve but altho this is helpful I would love a more detailed explanation on how to do it
