Hey all - How's it going? It's been a rocky autumn, so I hope you're all doing okay.

Since September my family and I have been caring for my mom, who was diagnosed with late stage breast cancer. She passed a few days ago, on November 7th.

My mom really wanted kids, and I was her first. She homeschooled me and my little sister and has always been there for us throughout her adult years. Before and after being a stay-at-home mom she was a school teacher, teaching history for Middle School. She spent her retirement time volunteering and giving tours at the Kansas City WW1 museum and Harry Truman museum & library. She was so smart and kind and witty, and the most peaceful feeling in the world was to hang out in the living room doing whatever while she sat next to a window reading a book about history. She accomplished a lot in her life, but still it feels like she is gone too soon. I'm 36 right now and she was 69.

There is some comfort in not being alone - a lot of people who have also lost a parent have reached out to me. I've found the same comfort in my infertility and IVF journey; you feel so alone until others reach out and have had similar experiences. I'm grateful for all the support friends, family, and even random people on the internet have reached out with.

Make sure to spend time with loved ones the remainder of the year. Be cozy, eat good food, make memories, even if it's just watching a movie together. Take care of each other. Much love to all of you.
