So let me get this straight..."Runna" did a sponsored "5km Race" event in NYC recently and made the road course (an "out and back" course no less!) like 2.9 miles long (an actual 5km is 3.11 miles in distance)...is this so everyone could like inflate their times and be more likely to get a "PR"? What a joke! No, it's not legit if you didn't actually run the full distance. Maybe add like a full minute to your time! Here on Strava we see dozens of data points that a GPS device should actually read more like 3.15 miles + for an accurately measured 5km (due to not running perfect tangents, wheel measurement, USATF standards of cert. etc). What's happened to the honesty and integrity that used to be so cornerstone in our sport of distance running? The value of a standard race distance?! If a course or race event (especially a road event!) is short...then own up to it! People make mistakes (intentional or not). Even running "influencers" should know better than to promote this crap and fakeness... otherwise just call it a "fun run that was short of 5km" or a "park run roughly near 3 miles" or something. 🤷🏻♂️. We don't need this fake inflation these days imo.
