i ejoyed your piece a few years ago on compond radius fretboards and it really made clear the geometry. as a one time builder of fine acoustic guitars in the 1970's for LoPrinzi and augustino guitars in Rosemont nj, and a luthier now in Lambertville nj, I know at our shop back then we always gave our fret boards the compound shape. Also I would like to point out that my 1961 les paul has a 7.25 to about maybe a 10'radius finger board. this made the techs at the Gibson garage in Nashville scratch their heads when I stoped in last year,. what happens to a tight radius is two main things, number 1 for me I'm arthritic and cant easily form chords on flat neck comfortably near the nut, number 2 is when you bend strings on a 7.25 radius neck, like a vintage fender tele, the string frets out on the peak of the radius, so your action hieght is limited. instead of .040" at the 12th fret you need something like .065" or alittle more at times, or you really cant bend notes. compond radius lets you have "0" buzz at lower action. this mainly is when we are talking 7.25 , or there abouts. even the later 9.5' strats and so on this fretting out is much les. chris zaic
