personally i love it when a character has their eyes closed 99% of the time and only opens them when Things Get Serious(tm)

A single drop of sweat appearing on a character's head.

The emptiness in a character's eyes when they've gone through something traumatic and heavy.

When the main character's arc doesn't involve winning a fight or beating an imposing enemy, but instead coming to terms and accepting themselves.

When the MC has a friend of the opposite gender who is never a love interest for them, and the two are just close friends. My favorite examples of this are Maomao and Basen, though they have a weird relationship just due to their positions relative to Jinshi, and Sunraku+Katso with Pencilgon, who are just a trio of gremlins.

For shojo and honesty anything that has romance or has a romantic plot . It's anything to do with concent. Lines like " Can I touch you ?" or "Is this okay ?" . Or even just a simple " May I ?" will always get me in the heart definitely. Like the fact that the other person doesn't want to accidentally do something uncomfortable to the other and wants to make sure the other person is okay before doing anything. It just gets me itln that spot, you know .

When a character begins to feel maternal or fatherly towards a younger character and wants to be the best parent they can be for said character, because they are a ray of sunshine and make their lives worth living.

A couple of side characters with better development than the main couple

A member of the "old guard" so to speak putting it all on the line for the new generation (like Rayleigh and Garp in One Piece, Netero in HunterxHunter, etc.)

The bad person in the story not necessarily being evil but just being a victim of misunderstanding & professional rivalry being taken as personal.

When they establish the main couple early in the story, with their relationship growing as the story progresses.

When the MC's face gets covered in a shadow and all you see are 2 glowing eyes. Best fight scene incoming!

Villains training the main character in some way. I love it bro! Like he just wants to be defeated

The comic relief character that seems useless but gets their moment to shine, and it turns out they are actually really badass just felt suppressed for whatever reason. Then starts becoming a more prominent piece in the story.

When it is a romance, I love when one asks the other things related to consent like "Can I touch you?" "Can I kiss you?" when in this scenario, the overhyped counterpart is the stolen kiss, sudden hug... Idk, that specific element gives me more butterflies than the other. And it doesn't need to be in a deep scenario, it could be a moment in the daily life of the couple!

When 2 ennemies are able to have a moment together without fighting. Usually offers some of the best scenes

Whether you love a time loop or a cute animal sidekick, name a niche story element that’s underhyped.
