Admiral Alvin Holsey, a Morehouse College graduate commissioned in 1988, is a highly decorated U.S. Navy officer who has served in significant sea, staff, and joint roles. He commanded Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light Three Seven (HSL-37) and the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8). As a flag officer, he commanded Carrier Strike Group One and was the inaugural commander of the International Maritime Security Construct / Coalition Task Force Sentinel. His numerous military decorations include two awards of the Navy Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, five awards of the Legion of Merit, and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. Before his most recent promotion, he served as Deputy Chief of Naval Personnel and Military Deputy Commander, U.S. Southern Command. On November 7, 2024, he was promoted to Admiral and assumed command of the United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM).
