I’ve been sewing since I was 12. The only clothes I’ve ever been satisfied with are the ones I’ve made myself, including my wedding dress! The only thing left for me is underwear, I don’t really know why I’ve never made my own, but after watching your series, I’m ready. Good thing too; my last few pairs of readymade are nearly worn out! 2025, will be the year I FINALLY have a 100% handmade wardrobe. I also knit, crochet, weave, and paint silks etc. I’m excited to reach that goal.!!!

I'm a rectangle; they still don't fit. Stepped out of my comfort zone today. Sewed a coat. It's butt ugly, but it's mine and it's sturdy!

This is so insightful; thank you! I have never made clothes before but I dream of making clothes for myself. Is the key to the right fit, starting with the right measurements plus making sure the garment is the right shape/silhouette for me? I really love the look of slightly baggy/oversized clothes but when I wear it, I look sloppy. I realized that the clothes I wear have to be balanced. I have difficulty finding clothes that fit me when I go to shops, and online shopping is even more wonky for me. So I feel like making my own clothes would be a good solution. (I have always loved sewing but all my experience is from learning the basic stitches in school and doing cross stitch before.) Is it possible to hand sew the patterns you offer? Thank you so much for sharing your passion with the world!

Your measurements are not enough to make the clothes fit well. Your posture and your body type are also very important. The majority of ready clothes are made for rectangular shaped women, and the size grading is also based on a rectangular shape. This means that is you are anything but a reactangualr, you will struggle to get the clothes to fit you. There won't be enough space either in your boobs area, or in the waist, or in the hips. Please remember, it has nothing to do with your body: these clothes were never made to fit you.
