I'm sure it's better for the algorithm, but to me short form content is just more brain rot. A quick dopamine hit and then immediately forgotten and on to the next thing.

I always prefer the longer videos , but maybe those of us from the speccy generation dont have the attention span of a goldfish at a tennis match

Watching shorts is such a waste of time. I use a browser script that completely removes everything shorts related from Youtube.

YouTube keeps trying to show me shorts. I keep clicking “not interested” and they hide them for a couple weeks, then bring them back. Rinse and repeat. If I were interested in those tiny little dopamine hits, I’d use TikTok. I don’t. I won’t unsubscribe over it, unless they actually start clogging my feed with them too much more frequently. But I strongly prefer not to see them at all. Maybe I’d find them less annoying if they were shot at a decent aspect ratio, but I kind of doubt it.

Shorts are for cat videos and "sorry I've been gone for six months ... my leg fell off and I just found it today" announcements. You do you, but I would take a 15-45 min video once a month or two over 10 shorts.

Have never, will never watch a short, or even a portrait framed video on this or any other media consumption platform, from yourself or another creator. I’m not 12 and have an attention span that can be measured in minutes or hours rather than seconds.

You should just concentrate on pants as shorts on a cold day can be problematic in retaining heat.

Shorts are fine but make them useful. Dammit Jeff does them very well to bite-size info from his main videos, Louis Rossman also uses them as more shareable examples. I personally don't watch myself and have most avenues for Shorts disabled in Revanced (the above I came across in my subscription feed), but for those who do Shorts can actually be useful.

shorts are not the same audience, it's more mobile watchers that have limited mental focus ability, you can complement your production with them but please never replace actual real content with this

For some channels and their fan base, shorts aren’t the best. There is a Half-Life channel that only posts shorts now and honestly I had to leave.

Personally, I prefer longer, more in depth content. Shorts might be fine for things like ‘hey there’s an event’, but frankly I always skip shorts in general. Just not worth my time.

Youtube premium user - will never watch a short. Will never be a 'member'.

I never watch shorts. I think that demographic that watch your videos dont do that also. That's my opinion.

True story, YouTube lets me suppress shorts still so I don't even see them. The format is not for me. I wish you success but there is a high chance I'll never see them.

I tried dabbling in shorts. I'm not allowed on that beach anymore

Shorts are for kids with no attention span, same as TikTok. I'm here for the proper videos.

Dabbling in Shorts...
I've been uploading Shorts recently, in an attempt to get more, regular content out. I'm finding that the mental load required to make a minute long video is exponentially less than something much longer (plus shorts = microdoses of dopamine).
For example, that allowed me to put out a quick video about the @TheCentreforComputingHistory Retro Festival, yesterday. Almost immediately after the event, which is much more satisfying than letting it languish and then being far too late.
If you're interested in seeing more of these type videos showing my computer related exploits, please let me know. It's not always possible to make a full length video about these things.
I've also been putting out Shorts relating to older videos that some of you may have never seen, or that just died in the ever hungry algorithm.
I hope you're finding these videos interesting, and at the very least, I hope they're not clogging up your feeds with stuff you'd rather not watch.
If you're enjoying, give them a thumb's up, and it'll help me understand what's working and what's not.
In other news, the next long form video is in its final stages, and should be ready soon!
Stay frosty! :)
