Novena to Christ the King (October 26 to November 3)
In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Blessed is God, who has mercy upon us and nourishes us from his bountiful gifts by his grace and love always, now and forever and to the ages of ages. Glory to you, our God, glory to you. Heavenly King, Comforter, the Spirit of truth, who are present everywhere filling all things, Treasury of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us. Cleanse us of every stain, and save our souls, gracious Lord.
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us (3).
Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and to the ages of ages. Amen.
I give Thee thanks, O most loving Jesus, for the painful Wound of Thy Right Hand, from which flowed the precious Blood that washes away our sins. In this Sacred Wound I place all my sins, which I detest with my whole heart, that they may be entirely blotted out, and, through its merits, I beg Thee to grant me true charity and perfect forgiveness toward all who have offended me. I give Thee thanks, O most loving Jesus, for the painful Wound of Thy Left Hand, from which flowed the precious Blood that sanctifies our souls.
In this Sacred Wound I commend all those whom I love, beseeching Thee to shield them from every evil and to unite them to Thee in perfect charity. I give Thee thanks, O most loving Jesus, for the painful Wound of Thy Most Sacred Heart, from which flowed Blood and Water, the fountain of eternal life. In this Sacred Wound I place myself, and in it I hide all my desires and petitions, that they may be purified in this burning furnace of divine love.
Most Sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, look down upon us humbly prostrate before Thine altar. We are Thine, and Thine we wish to be; but to be more surely united to Thee, behold each one of us freely consecrates ourselves today to Thy Most Sacred Heart. Many indeed have never known Thee; Many too, despising Thy precepts, have rejected Thee. Have mercy on them all, most merciful Jesus, and draw them to Thy Sacred Heart. Be Thou King, O Lord, not only of the faithful children, who have never forsaken Thee, but also of the prodigal children, who have abandoned Thee; Grant that they may quickly return to their Father’s house lest they die of wretchedness and hunger.
Be Thou King of those who are deceived by erroneous opinions, or whom discord keeps aloof, and call them back to the harbour of truth and unity of faith, so that there may be but one flock and one Shepherd.
Be Thou King of all those who are still involved in the darkness of idolatry, and refuse not to draw them into the light and kingdom of God. Turn Thine eyes of mercy towards the children of the race, once Thy chosen people: of old they called down upon themselves the Blood of the Saviour; may it now descend upon them a laver of redemption and of life.
Grant, O Lord, to Thy Church assurance of freedom and immunity from harm; give peace and order to all nations, and make the earth resound from pole to pole with one cry; praise to the Divine Heart that wrought our salvation; To it be glory and honor forever. Amen.
