Pure Nature ASMR
Bird songs are much more unusual than most people think.
• Some birds can imitate an incredible number of sounds. Mockingbirds, mynas, and lyrebirds can copy dozens of other birds — and sometimes even things like door creaks, alarms, or cat meows.
• A rare South American bird called Ridgely’s antpitta has a call that sounds almost exactly like a dog barking. Scientists believe it uses this sound to scare away intruders from its territory.
• Birds with thin, delicate beaks usually produce the most complex songs. Insect-eating birds can change notes very quickly, while birds with larger beaks cannot sing as fast.
• Male nightingales are believed to have some of the best musical memory in the bird world. Some can remember and repeat long sequences with dozens of different sounds.
• Birds pass their songs from one generation to the next. In some species, fathers teach sons, while mothers teach daughters.
• Mozart loved listening to his pet starling. One day, the bird repeated part of one of Mozart’s piano pieces, but changed a few notes. Mozart liked the bird’s version so much that he later used it in the final composition.
Birdsong is not just beautiful — sometimes it can sound stranger than we expect.
