The fact that this trip started twenty years ago today is insane to me! This was my first trip to Japan and one that I desperately needed during that moment in my life. It was a life changing trip for me I think about this trip almost every day, even after twenty years.
If you haven't taken the journey, what are you wanting for? Check it out!
On July 1, 2025 at 4:45pm, Austin Fields passed away surrounded by family and friends after a short time in the hospital due to two aneurism ruptures. This video is a celebration of his life. While those of us that knew and loved Austin will miss him dearly, his positive outlook and vibe is so inspiring that we will all feel that love and energy for many years to come.
Please check out Vince’s (@CivilianSatellite )series from the 2024 tour of Japan! He did a great job and I am having a great time reliving the trip through his vlogs. You can find the first in this series by clicking the link below then go from there. Currently, this series is ongoing and he will be releasing more in the series soon.
This year has been quite the doozy. I will spare you with all the details of why, but outside visiting Japan, this year wasn’t all that great for me. For instance, I lost my career with the Eyes of Freedom in August. This was easily the most fulfilling and incredible thing iI have EVER been part of and being laid off was more than a shock to me.
One thing I have learned while spending countless months on the road with the Eyes of Freedom is the surprise factor. You never really knew what was going to happen next. Sure, event are planned and people come together but there still an element of surprise. Well, today, that element of surprise showed its power. Boy, did it.
As of today, December 18th 2024. I am officially back with the Eyes of Freedom. We have a brand new mission We have a brand new team and I will be continuing the road journey with the exhibit. I can’t wait to get back on the road, where it feels right. I start the road journey in just a few weeks. This year is going to be insane, and I can’t wait!
For those of you that have no idea what the Eyes of Freedom is and why it’s so important to me, please visit eyesoffreedom.org to learn more. I also run the Eyes of Freedom YouTube channel which can be found at youtube.com/@limacompanymemorial My MASSIVLOG series was started because of my travels with the Eyes of Freedom. It’s also a good place to see what it was like to travel with the EoF.
For those of you that can't get enough of Son of Beast, I just released some 3D stereoscopic videos of still images created in three different viewing formats. If you are a fan of 3D and roller coasters, check out my newly created second channel containing my 3D content.
Now that all the parts of largest series I have ever edited have been released, I look back at the last nineteen weeks and realize just how much has changed since the 2024 trip to Japan has ended. For instance,I had a great career at the start of the series that I lost somewhere in the middle. While 2024 hasn’t been one of the best years of my life for various reasons, this trip was the one saving grace, proving that not everything was bad. I can’t thank Vincent, Marty and Anthony enough for being great travel brothers and being part of such a life changing trip. I miss Japan. I miss the people and I miss the controlled chaos. If you have ANY chance in your life to visit that amazing place, please consider to do so.
This channel will now return to its more vintage nature as I have videos uploaded and scheduled all the way through November 2026, as it stands right now. Lots of fun stuff to be seen. Stay tuned!

For the first time since I originally joined YouTube in 2007, I have decided to create a second channel. Being a lifelong fan of 3D movies and videos, I have been recording 3D content since the late 90's when I used a large attachment in the front of my Sony Hi8 camera that allowed me to record in 3D. If you were to tell back then me that I would be able to record in true 3D with a handheld device, like an iPhone, I would have laughed.
Technology, being what it is today, has allowed for the easier creation of 3D content. With VR and spatial video becoming more popular, I decided to give the 3D world another try. My first video is 3D content from my 2024 of Japan. I recorded the trip with an IPhone15 Pro Max and edited it with a series of spatial recording apps and Final Cut Pro X.
I will be releasing each video I upload in at least two different 3D formats; SBS and anaglyph. The SBS (side-by-side) format displays two images (left and right eye) in two separate frames. Only when viewing on a proper 3D device are those two images combined into a single frame. In order to view 3D in SBS format you need to have a device that can display SBS video and images. I have a 3D TV that displays this content wonderfully.
The second, and more accessible format is anaglyph (red/blue). There are a couple different ways to create anaglyph 3D content. The Japan in 3D anaglyph video was recorded and edited with the iPhone 15 Pro MaX, just like the SBS footage, however, the process to create the 3D effect is different. For the Japan In 3D anaglyph content, the natural colors are included in what I recorded. There is a down side to this as the colors are different when looking through red and blue lenses. To combat that, I have found that making a anaglyph 3D video in monochrome is better for the depth perception and color replacement, so all the anaglyph content after the Japan video will be released in monochrome. It's not perfect but it works. To view videos in anaglyph 3D, you need to pick up some red and blue 3D glasses made for 3D viewing. These can be found many places online and are inexpensive compared to other 3D glasses and formats.
I have also decided to use IA in creating 3D images from pictures that weren't shot in 3D originally. I used the portraits from the Eyes of Freedom as an example. These 2D portraits now to appear to have depth. The first time I viewed these portraits in 3D made me emotional, If I am being honest. I have also started a project where I am making 3D photos of a fallen Marine for his parents so they can see their son in 3D once again. It's a lengthy process but I have found out what works. Not sure if the photos of the Marine will be public as I am doing this for the family as sort of a test to see how it all works out.
If you have a proper way of viewing 3D on YouTube, please check out my channel, Currently there aren't a lot of videos on the channel but enough to show what I plan on doing with the channel.
I hope you are enjoying the Coasting In Japan 2024 series. If you have been watching from part 1, you are just over halfway through the entire series. Part 19 (the final part in the series) will be released on November 30th. After that, the channel will be going back to the release of vintage content. A new part in the Coasting In Japan 2024 series will be premiered each Saturday morning at 9AM (eastern time)
As of the time I am creating this post, I have at least two vintage videos being released each month all the way through November of 2026. Most of the videos are amusement park related and have been remastered.
If you like what you see on this channel, please subscribe if you haven't already. Lots of content is already uploaded and scheduled for at least the next two years so there is plenty of time to experience the many journeys of this channel.
Part 11 in the Coasting In Japan 2024 series takes us to Universal Studios Japan where we had a less than ideal day at the park due to the crowds as well as the heat and humidity. We did our best to enjoy the day as always. Check out the video when it premiers this Saturday morning.
On August 3rd, 2005, I lost a good friend, Sgt. Justin Hoffman, who was killed in Iraq with several of his fellow Marines. His death changed my life for ever. Through a number of incredible moments, I got involved in something called the Lima Company Memorial. Justin was going to be one of the 22 Marines painted in this traveling exhibit.
I volunteered with the organization in 2006 - 2012. In September of 2012, it became my full-time job. I had the chance to experience life-altering moments, hundreds of times throughout this amazing journey. I have met some of the most awe inspiring people in this world who do amazing things. It has truly been something I would have never thought I would have been able to witness.
So, this brings me to current times. Times are tough for people, including the Eyes of Freedom. I was informed on Tuesday that my position with the Eyes of Freedom has been eliminated. Many different emotions have been felt over the past couple of days. The main one being excited about what will show up next in my life. With that does comes some fear of the unknown. I honestly don’t know what I will be doing next. I have some ideas but I don’t know if I can actually figure out how to pull them off .
I have been honored beyond belief to have been chosen to take the images and stories of the fallen of Lima Company, as well as to explain to the drastic importance of the Silent Battle sculpture. Most of you that read this probably aren’t aware of what I did for a living. It was much, much more than just a job. The Eyes of Freedom was a life mission for me. And while I won’t be working at any Eyes of Freedom events from now on and traveling the country honoring all, I will still be honoring all members of our service in any way I can find.
Thank you to everyone that has made my journey with the Eyes of Freedom the most important journey of my life.
