[Korean Gyubang gongyae - Korean boudoir crafts ]
The word Gyubang is the Korean word for the room where these crafts were made, and Gongyae means crafts. In the past, various items used in daily life were made in the Gyubang including wrapping cloths(Bojagi), Jogakbo (Korean taditional patchwork), satchels, pin cushions, tablecloths, and placemats. Nowadays, Gyubang gongyae crafts are primarily used for decorative purposes or in traditional wedding ceremonies. They can also be great souvenir items. Jogakbo is created special art in Korea.
규방공예 (Korean boudoir craft)는 예로부터 양반집 규수들이 다양한 바느질 기법으로 혼수 관련 작품들과 실용적인 생활 작품들을 비단 혹은 모시로 작업을 하던 귀족 공예에 해당됩니다. 격식과 품위 그리고 실용성을 겸비한 다양한 규방공예 작품들은 조각보, 발, 혼수준비물, 각종 주머니, 보자기,전통자수와 전통 매듭등이 있습니다. 특히 복을 싸는 보자기(Bojagi - Korean wrapping clothe)에서 예술성을 가미한 조각보(Jogakbo - Korean traditonal patchwork)의 경우 우리나라만의 독특한 전통적인 색상과 소재를 활용한 세계적인 명품화가 가능한 구체적 한류 아이템이라고 볼 수 있습니다.
